Four Men's Soccer Student-Athletes Qualify for CSC Academic All-District

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Four Saint Michael's College men's soccer players recently qualified for College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division II Academic All-District honors.

Senior Alessandro Pescina (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela/Colegio Loyola Gumilla), juniors Jake Manley (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) and Amos Schramm (Sagard, Mecklenburg-Pomerania, Germany/Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium), and sophomore Xolo Miralles (Vinaròs, Spain/IES Leopoldo Querol/Otero) all claimed accolades. Manley, Pescina and Schramm each earned their second career nod.

Saint Michael's was one of three schools in the Northeast-10 Conference with at least four qualifiers, joining Southern Connecticut State University (6) and Southern New Hampshire University (4). The four Purple Knights were among 20 total from the NE10.

College Sports Communicators, formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), moved to a qualification system for All-District accolades in 2022, with major contributors toting at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average by their sophomore seasons eligible. Each school was able to put six student-athletes forward for an award that previously necessitated voting. Instead, All-District honorees can now advance directly to the Academic All-America ballot, which will still incorporate national membership voting.

Pescina started once in 14 outings this season while finishing his career with five points in 34 contests. He holds a 3.79 GPA while majoring in engineering management, qualified five times for the NE10 Academic Honor Roll, and landed a pair of Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievement Awards.

Manley scored at Southern Connecticut State on Oct. 13 while making 10 of his 15 appearances from the bench. While holding a 3.76 GPA, Manley double majors in accounting and business administration, has claimed four NE10 Academic Honor Roll nods, and qualified for a 2022-23 D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.

A second-year captain, Schramm posted two goals and two assists in 10 games, all starts. He carries a 3.55 GPA as a double major in psychology and secondary education, and landed on the NE10 Academic Honor Roll four times while nabbing a 2022-23 D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.

Miralles buried a penalty kick in his first game with the Purple Knights on Sept. 2 before lending two assists this fall. A business administration major with a 3.50 GPA, Miralles qualified for the NE10 Academic Honor Roll last spring during his first term at the College.

Through the Academic All-America program, CSC names separate Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams at each the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III levels, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
