Taylor Nets OT Winner at Southern New Hampshire, Men's Ice Hockey Improves to 4-0

HOOKSETT, N.H. - Senior Zach Taylor (Hanover, Mass./South Shore Kings) scored 18 seconds into overtime to hand the Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team a 3-2 win against Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play at the Ice Den Arena. The Purple Knights are 4-0 for the first time since 1998-99 thanks to three overtime victories, including two this weekend over the Penmen.

THE ACTION
  • One second after their power play expired, the Purple Knights took the lead 6:20 into the contest. Sophomore Quinn McCarthy (Melrose, Mass./Holderness School) had an initial shot saved, but junior Brennan McFarland (Greeley, Colo./Northern Colorado Eagles) corralled the rebound and made an extra pass for Forselius, who slid a shot from the slot into a vacated left side of the net.
  • Twardosky drew Southern New Hampshire even 4:53 into the second frame, taking Muthersbaugh's stretch pass behind the defense and finishing to the top corner.
  • The visitors went back in front at 10:43 of the third during a power play, with sophomore Nick Wracker (Columbia, S.C./Northeast Generals) sending a cross-crease pass for Beaver, who buried a top-shelf strike over Guerin.
  • Lynch put home a second effort for a power-play goal of his own at 14:02, and the teams went to overtime for the second straight day.
  • In the 3-on-3 extra period, the Penmen won the opening faceoff before first-year Anthony Marchant fired wide from the left circle, and Taylor picked up the loose puck in his own right circle, carried into the far left circle, and picked the close corner for the winner after just 18 seconds.
