Women's Basketball Uses Fourth-Quarter Comeback to Defeat Caldwell, 67-62

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team used a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to best Caldwell University, 67-62, on Monday afternoon at the Ross Sports Center.

GAME FACTS
  • The Purple Knights improved to 4-2 in the all-time series. The most recent Saint Michael's victory over Caldwell came on Nov. 9, 2019.
  • The Purple and Gold had 13 steals on 22 turnovers while only committing 10, and held a 26-10 advantage on points from turnovers.
  • Blake, Franchi, Laggis, and Nadeau all scored seven points in the second half to help fuel the comeback for the Purple Knights.
THE ACTION
  • Saint Michael's went on a 12-5 run capped off with Franchi's three-pointer at 2:40 to give the Purple Knights an 18-10 lead in the first quarter.
  • Amber Furch knocked down a shot from beyond the arc with 42 seconds left in the first quarter on an assist from Laggis to make the score 21-14 in favor of the Purple Knights.
  • After sophomore Julie Lyden (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) knocked down a mid-range jumper at 4:23 in the second quarter to make the score 31-25, the Cougars went on a 12-0 run that carried into the beginning of the second half.
  • The Cougars began the final quarter with a 7-2 run to give them an eight-point lead at 57-49.
  • The Purple and Gold tied the game with a three-pointer from Franchi at 3:22 and took the lead when Nadeau stole the ball and made a layup on the fast break on the next possession as part of a 13-0 run to gain a 62-57 lead at 2:17 in the fourth quarter.
  • Lewis converted on a layup at 1:20, but Blake and Franchi combined for five free throws in the final minute of the contest to help Saint Michael's pull away from the Cougars.
