Women's Basketball Leads No. 22 Pace Late During 65-57 Setback

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team led 22nd-ranked Pace University with a little more than two minutes remaining on Saturday before losing a 65-57 Northeast-10 Conference decision in the Ross Sports Center. The Setters' ranking is according to the D2CSC national poll, and they are third in the East Region rankings.

THE ACTION
  • Collins had a pair of baskets as the Setters led 8-0 by 6:59 of the opening quarter. Lorde's lay-up made it 17-4 with 2:01 to go.
  • Amber Furch put home two buckets in the final 31 seconds, capping a 10-0 run that brought Saint Michael's within three points.
  • Pace slowly built its lead back to 10 points in the second stanza before the hosts came as close as four points on three occasions in the third.
  • First-year Ashlee Talbot's (Dracut, Mass./Dracut) three from the corner finished off a tying 7-0 run with 5:55 left in regulation before Mansaray's consecutive hoops pushed the Pace lead to 54-50 at 4:19.
  • Three Purple Knight free throws were followed by Brophy's straight-on three with 2:40 remaining, which gave the hosts a 56-54 edge.
  • The Setters responded with an 11-0 run, keyed by Collins' tying freebies at 2:23 and Mansaray's go-ahead jumper at 1:54. Collins scored eight of her team's points during the key stretch.
