Men's Basketball Downs Queens, 94-90, Improves to 9-2

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team knocked off Queens (N.Y.) College, 94-90, on Saturday in South Gym. The Purple Knights received votes toward the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) national poll and were fourth in the most recent D2CSC East Region rankings.

THE ACTION
  • Queens netted the game's first two hoops on three-pointers by 18:48 of the opening stanza, but the six-point lead was the largest by either squad until the Purple Knights finished off a 13-2 run to nab a 34-24 advantage with 7:09 left. Marold scored six points in that time.
  • The hosts wiped out their deficit thanks to tying 11-2 run, as junior Jayden Seraphin's fastbreak hoop tied the teams at 38 with 4:12 left. The visitors took a 48-47 lead into halftime.
  • Chester's jumper at 17:27 of the second period capped a 12-0 run (56-48), and Lawrence's three-pointer at 15:30 gave Queens a 63-50 lead.
  • The Knights were still ahead 82-74 with less than seven minutes left before Saint Michael's netted nine of the next 10 points, tying the game on Marold's freebie at 3:37. Reid knocked down two free throws to put his team up 85-84 at 2:21, the first of five lead swings in a matter of 65 seconds, as a Reid lay-in capped that stretch and provided his team an 89-88 edge.
  • Following a Queens miss at 52 seconds, Yepdo picked up the rebound before burying a jumper at 25 seconds. Marold came up with a steal on the next Knight possession, and Yepdo's two freebies with 15 ticks remaining made it 93-88, all but sealing the win.
