WATERVILLE VALLEY/DUBLIN, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College men's Alpine skiing team won the giant slalom on Friday at day one of the two-day Harvard University Carnival. Alpine races were held at Waterville Valley Resort, while Nordic events were at the Dublin School.

- Between Alpine and Nordic, Saint Michael's stands seventh among 14 schools after the opening day with 188 points.

- The men won Friday's GS with 101 points, trimming Dartmouth College (94), Harvard (88) and the University of New Hampshire (86) while outdistancing fifth-place Middlebury College (74) and the University of Vermont (74).
- The Purple and Gold men also won a GS event last year, claiming victory at their own Saint Michael's Carnival on Jan. 21.
- The women were seventh with 44 points.
- Between the men and women, Saint Michael's Alpine skiing scored seventh-place points in the GS (145), but was within range of Plymouth State University (150), Middlebury (152), UVM (152) and third-place New Hampshire (157).
- Only the top 30 in the opening run made second runs on Friday.
