Men's Basketball Downed by First-Place Southern New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team finished its regular season by losing at first-place Southern New Hampshire University, 76-61, on Tuesday evening during Northeast-10 Conference play in Stan Spirou Field House. The Penmen received votes toward this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) national poll and were among 10 teams under consideration for the NCAA East Region rankings.

THE ACTION

  • Guillory had two buckets as the Penmen grabbed a 6-0 lead by 17:43 of the first half, but the Purple Knights twice closed to within three points on Duniver three-pointers, including 11-8 at 13:35.
  • Two more Guillory hoops made it 15-8, but Duniver put home a pair of buckets to kick off a tying 9-2 run, with Brzezinski leveling the teams at 17 on a lay-in with 8:15 left.
  • Guillory's lay-up at 6:24 snapped the deadlock, and Saint Michael's remained within seven points until the final minute of the half, coming within 30-26 on Crews' triple at 1:54.
  • Layman closed out the half with consecutive lay-ups to send the hosts into the locker room with a 37-26 lead.
  • Southern New Hampshire led by as many as 16 points in the early portion of the second stanza, but Brzezinski and Crews later both connected on threes in an 8-0 run that cut the deficit to 51-43 by 10:53.
  • The Penmen scored the next nine points, with Guillory netting the final five, and the hosts' lead never dipped below 15 points from there.

NEXT SAINT MICHAEL'S GAME

  • As the No. 11 seed in the NE10 Championship, the Purple Knights will head to No. 6 Le Moyne College on Friday for a first-round game that begins at 7 p.m.
  • The Dolphins are among 10 teams under consideration toward the NCAA East Region rankings.
