No. 13 Women's Basketball Falls to No. 4 Bentley During NE10 Championship First Round

WALTHAM, Mass. - The 13th-seeded Saint Michael's College women's basketball team's season ended on Friday evening with a 59-39 loss to No. 4 Bentley University during a Northeast-10 Conference Championship first-round game in the Dana Center. The Falcons are among 10 teams under consideration in the NCAA East Region rankings.

  • MacDonough finished 11th in program history in career three-pointers (115) while appearing in exactly 100 games.

THE ACTION

  • Neither team led by more than two points until Brophy buried a three-pointer with 1:22 left in the opening quarter, giving Saint Michael's a 13-9 lead. When MacDonough knocked down a jumper 18 seconds into the second stanza, the Purple Knights held a 15-9 advantage on the strength of a 7-1 run.
  • Graduate student Kari Brekke hit a tying triple at 4:43 to cap an 8-2 stretch, but MacDonough drilled a trey of her own 35 seconds later, and Slaven's buzzer-beating jumper provided the visitors a 26-21 lead at halftime.
  • Slaven knocked down another jumper 30 seconds into the third period to give Saint Michael's its largest lead, 28-21, before Bentley countered with the next 13 points. Whitmore's four points in that time led five scorers.
  • The Purple Knights twice crept within four points, including on MacDonough's jumper at 3:04 (36-32), but the Falcons pulled away with a 10-0 run that bridged the intermission.
  • MacDonough hit a three that produced a 46-35 margin at 7:28 of the fourth quarter, but Bentley responded with a 13-2 run to quash the Purple and Gold comeback bid.
