WALPOLE, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team defeated Division I Stonehill College, 5-2, on Saturday at the Wimbledon 109 Tennis Club. The Purple Knights were 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Poll.

MATCH FACTS
- Saint Michael's defeated a Division I squad for the first time since a 6-3 victory against Siena College on Oct. 1, 1983. The Purple Knights won seven matches on Saturday, their most against a Division I outfit since an 8-1 win against Siena on Sept. 14, 1981.
- The Purple and Gold won for the third time in four outings.
- Boucher and Weiss won their 10th match as a doubles tandem, tying for eighth in program history among doubles teams. Boucher and senior Connor Scott (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) are also among the five duos tied for eighth place.
- With 61 career wins between singles and doubles, Boucher passed Sean Steigerwald '09 (60) to take over second place in program history. He is also now tied with three players for third in singles wins (29).

- The Purple Knights have downed former Northeast-10 Conference counterpart Stonehill in consecutive meetings for the first time since winning three straight between April 14, 2000, and April 20, 2001.
- The Purple Knights' slate this season has featured Division I Stonehill, a pair of matches with Division I Merrimack College, meetings with five nationally-ranked Division II and III foes, and contests with a trio of regionally-ranked NE10 partners.
THE ACTION
- Boucher and Weiss nabbed a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles before the Purple Knights' two other teams won in tiebreakers. Moser and Tonini improved to 3-0 this season by taking a 7-6 (7-0) decision in the third spot, clinching the visitors the doubles point, before Billman and Du Plessis claimed a 7-6 (7-6) win at No. 1.
- Van den Broek finished off a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 singles before Weiss eased to a 6-1, 6-3 win in the first position. Boucher clinched the Saint Michael's victory by taking a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) contest at No. 3.
- Moser extended the lead to 5-0 with a three-set comeback win in the second slot, by a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) count.
- Du Plessis lost at No. 5, 6-2, 2-6, 10-5, before sophomore Sergio Barroso (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Montpellier) was defeated for just the second time in 13 outings this season, 7-5, 7-6 (7-1), at No. 4.
