COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's men's tennis team won the first six matches against Assumption University en route to a 5-2 victory during Northeast-10 Conference action on Thursday at the SMC Tennis Courts. The Purple Knights were 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Poll.

THE ACTION
- Saint Michael's swept the doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead.
- Barroso and van den Broek opened play by winning the final four games of a 6-1 victory at No. 3 before Boucher and Weiss took four of the final five games to nab a 6-4 win in the second spot, clinching the decision on Weiss' winner.
- At No. 1, Billman and Du Plessis won Du Plessis' final service game to force a tiebreaker, where they fell behind 3-1. However, Du Plessis' service keyed a 4-0 Purple Knight run, with his backhand winner giving the duo a 4-3 lead en route to a 5-3 advantage. The tandem closed out the 7-6 (7-4) victory with Billman at the service line, as the Greyhounds hit consecutive errors to cap the contest.
- Moser began singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph in the second spot before Boucher made it 3-0 by capturing a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 3, winning the final six games of the first set and five of the final six in the second.
- Weiss's 50th win came in dramatic fashion, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5, at No. 1. He overcame a 4-2 deficit in the opener to force a tiebreaker, where he again trailed 4-2 before winning four straight points to take control. In the second set, Weiss broke his opponent's serve to take a 6-5 lead before capturing the next game to clinch his own victory as well as the team's triumph.
- Barroso played a lengthy match of his own at No. 4, ultimately losing a 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 decision. After winning the first three games of the opening set and losing the next four, he took the final three to snag the lead. He was up 5-4 in the second-set tiebreaker before yielding the final three points, and overcame a 5-2 deficit in the third set to edge within 5-4 before his opponent closed out the match.
- Billman took a 6-2, 6-4 decision in the sixth spot, winning the final five games of the first set and four of the final five in the second set.
- Du Plessis was on the losing end of a 4-6, 6-3, 14-12 contest at No. 5, which included him winning six straight points in the third-set super tiebreaker to overcome an 8-3 deficit to lead 9-8 on his forehand winner. He put down another winner to lead 11-10 before his foe took four of the final five points.
