MATCH FACTS

  • The Purple Knights won for the fifth time in six outings.
  • Saint Michael's won at the Falcons' home site for the first time since Oct. 14, 2007, and just the fifth time ever. The Purple Knights also turned the feat on March 27, 1993, Oct. 10, 1981, and Oct. 11, 1980.
  • The Purple and Gold registered seven wins in consecutive years for the first time since 2007-08 and 2008-09, and guaranteed itself a non-losing record in NE10 play for the first time since 2008-09.
  • Boucher's 64th and 65th wins tied him with Lescure, while he matched Torr Terranova '08 for second in school annals with 34 career doubles victories. With 21 victories this season, he tied Greg Keller '82 (1980-81) for second in school history, short only of the record 24 Boucher himself won last season. His 11 doubles wins this season match a career high and are within one of the mark Lescure and Terranova set in 2007-08.
  • Weiss catapulted into seventh place in program history with 52 total career victories. He is now tied for 10th in singles wins (26) with Kevin Birch '93 and Sol Dostilio '02.
  • Boucher and Weiss won their 12th doubles match together over their careers, the third most among any Purple Knight duo in the last 30 years.
  • Barroso won his 12th singles match this school year, tying Mike Thomas '81 and Ivan Llona '22 for second in program history. Boucher set the mark with 13 in 2021-22; Weiss currently has 11 this season while Boucher adds 10. The 1980-81 squad was the only other Purple Knight team to carry at least three players with 10 singles wins, as Thomas (12), Keller (11), Hitoshi Fujiwara '83 (10), Steve Knapp '83 (10) and Tim Walsh '83 (10) all reached the mark.

THE ACTION

  • Boucher and Weiss opened doubles play with a 6-3 victory in the second spot before the Purple Knights completed the sweep with a pair of 7-5 wins. Barroso and van den Broek combined for the clinching point at No. 3 before Billman and Du Plessis were victorious in the top position.
  • Billman won his fifth straight singles match behind a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6, Moser claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win in the second spot, and Barroso clinched his team the victory courtesy of a 6-4, 6-0 decision at No. 4.
  • Du Plessis followed with a 6-4, 5-7, 10-1 win in the fifth position, Boucher finished off a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Weiss ground his way to a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 12-10 victory in the top spot to complete the shutout.
