GAME FACTS
- The Purple Knights finished the season with their most wins since going 7-7 in 2015.
- Saint Michael's held sizable leads in shots (55-32) and ground balls (58-32) while going 5-for-6 on man-up opportunities.
- Wilson broke a pair of program records on Tuesday night. With 91 ground balls this season, he bested John Leahy's '99 25-year-old program mark (83). Wilson's 154 faceoff victories eclipsed Justin Richmond's '21 four-year-old standard (143).
- Katavolos tied a career high with the six goals while setting a personal high with eight points. He finished his career ninth in program history in goals (89) and 17th in points (116).
- Simonson ended the year with 56 points, seven shy of a program mark, to take sixth in school annals. He had the most points by a Purple Knight since Marty Vanzo '13 totaled 60 in 2013. Simonson's 36 goals tied the most for a Saint Michael's player since Pete Donnally '13 netted 43 in 2012.
- Collins upped his season total to 51 points, good for 10th in program history, while his 25 assists tied for fourth. He and Simonson became the third Purple Knight duo to both reach 50 points, joining Mike Riddell '88 and George Finn '90 in 1988 and Rick Saba '92 and Matt Pagen '95 in 1992.
- Sardella finished his career fifth in program history in caused turnovers (57), while Grillone is tied for ninth (47) and Cammarata is one short of the top 10 (42).
- The Purple Knights were fourth in this week's New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) rankings.
THE ACTION
- Neither team led by more than one goal during the opening half, and AIC broke a 4-4 halftime tie when sophomore Hunter Terlik tallied a man-up marker 1:52 into the third period.
- The Purple Knights responded with the next eight goals during a 7:46 span to nab a 12-5 lead with 3:47 left in the third. Katavolos led the way with a hat trick and an assist, scoring once at even strength, once on a man up, and once a man down. Simonson added a goal and three helpers.
- Graduate student Rusty Stone's strike at 13:19 of the fourth brought AIC within 14-7, but Simonson and first-year Owen Balfour (Mashpee, Mass./Mashpee) sandwiched goals around a McGowan marker, with all three tallies coming in a frenzied 36-second stretch. The Purple Knights never again led by fewer than seven goals.
