Field Hockey Downed by No. 4 Saint Anselm, 5-2

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College field hockey team capped its non-league slate with a 5-2 loss against No. 4 Saint Anselm College on Wednesday at Duffy Field. The Hawks' national ranking is according to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), as Saint Anselm qualified for the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

THE ACTION
  • Three consecutive shots were converted into goals by 6:15 of the opening quarter, at which point Saint Anselm held a 2-1 edge. Davis tipped Breznyak's centering feed over O'Connor with 3:28 gone before tallying from the middle of the circle just 2:05 later. However, Loughlin potted her first goal 42 seconds after that, ripping a shot from the middle of the circle during a penalty corner sequence.
  • Senior Abbey Bevens extended the Hawk lead just before halftime, redirecting Breznyak's pass during the 27th minute.
  • Davis and junior Stephanie Sutton-Brown tallied in the 33rd and 37th minutes, respectively, before Saint Michael's put together a harried offensive sequence during a 38th-minute corner set. Senior Danielle Cummings (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) and juniors Allie Medeiros (East Greenwich, R.I./Saint Mary Academy - Bay View) and Addy Fenton (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) all put shots on net, but McConnell denied the first and third, while Michael provided a defensive save.
  • Loughlin cracked the scoring column again in the 49th minute, slipping a shot inside the close post off of Sapienza's feed.
