THE ACTION
- The Purple Knights nearly went ahead in the sixth minute, as sophomore Jack Andrews (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) sent a lead pass that junior Amos Schramm (Sagard, Mecklenburg-Pomerania, Germany/Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium) one-touched onto a sliding DaSilva. Penin sent the rebound from the edge of the box on goal, where a Redhawk field player cleared the shot off the line.
- Barrett kept the game scoreless in the 27th minute by diving to punch away sophomore Luke Hanes' curling ball from the edge of the box.
- Saint Michael's went into halftime up 1-0 by scoring in the waning seconds of the opening stanza. Senior Nino Scolieri (Franklin Square, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) hustled to place the ball for a corner kick with less than 10 seconds to go and forced DaSilva to dive and punch away his bid. However, Colbert quickly passed the rebound from the edge of the box and found the right foot of Poolman, who tipped a shot inside the left post with two seconds to go.
- Penin doubled the lead in the 54th minute, finishing left-footed inside the right post after a lead pass from Santaniello, who weaved through three Redhawks in the midfield.
- Balaam halved the Roberts Wesleyan deficit in the 72nd minute, sending a low shot home from 25 yards.
- Balaam had a shot blocked from the top of the box in the 86th minute that proved to be the final bid for either side.
