WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team lost a 62-45 Northeast-10 Conference decision at regionally-ranked Assumption University on Saturday in Laska Gymnasium. The Greyhounds were seventh in the latest D2CSC East Region poll and received votes toward this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) national poll.

THE ACTION

• Assumption used a 10-2 first-period spurt, with Stokes scoring her team's first seven points, to take a 12-4 lead by 1:25.
• The Greyhounds extended their advantage to 19-10 with 4:28 left in the second quarter, but Brophy knocked down a three-pointer 50 seconds later before Slaven converted a three-point play to bring Saint Michael's within three points at 2:53.
• Assumption responded with a 16-5 run that bridged halftime, leading 35-21 on Mieczkowski's pair of free throws at 6:22 of the third stanza.
• Stokes' three-point play 11 seconds into the fourth quarter pushed the margin to 47-29.
• Still down 17, the Purple Knights scored 11 of the next 15 points to draw within 55-45 with 2:21 to go. Slaven scored six of the points and Santos the other five.
• That was as close as Saint Michael's got, as Assumption netted the final seven points.
