COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team held off Adelphi University, 62-59, on Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play in the Ross Sports Center.

THE ACTION
  • The Purple Knights got off to a torrid 21-2 start by 4:36 of the opening quarter, shooting 7-of-8 - including 6-from-7 from deep - while doing all of its scoring in a 4:34 stretch. Amber Furch led the way by shooting 3-of-3 from three.
  • Saint Michael's was ahead 28-8 on Slaven's lay-in at 8:02 of the second period before Adelphi scored nine of the next 10 points, drawing within 29-17 on Sanchez's bucket at 2:01. The hosts were up 14 at halftime.
  • Sanchez's two free throws made it 34-26 by 4:30 of the third period, but the Purple Knights' lead remained between eight and 10 points until Adelphi crept within 41-35 nine seconds into the final stanza.
  • Slaven's pair of freebies pushed the lead back to 49-39 at 7:29, but the Panthers trimmed the deficit to four points on three occasions before Robinson's lay-in with 19 ticks to go made it 61-59.
  • However, Brophy hit a free throw eight seconds later, and the visitors' tying three just before the buzzer was offline.
