Men's Ice Hockey Defeats Southern New Hampshire, 4-1, in NE10 Tilt

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team finished a Northeast-10 weekend set with a 4-1 victory against Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday in Cairns Arena. Junior Moseley Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa./Phillips Academy) scored his first career goal to help pace the Purple Knights' offense.

THE ACTION
  • Neither team found the back of the net during the first period as Manahan made 13 saves for the Purple Knights and Guerin stopped 10 for the Penmen.
  • The Purple Knights broke the stalemate at 8:29 in the second period when Schwartz slotted the puck on the rebound of Lincourt's shot to give the Purple and Gold a 1-0 lead.
  • Beaver notched the second goal for Saint Michael's at 10:31 in the second period on a slapshot from the point on assists from Dukes and Forselius during a power play.
  • Naumann scored the third goal of the second period for the Purple and Gold after stealing the puck on an errant pass from a Penmen defender and beating Guerin on his glove side to give the Purple Knights a 3-0 lead for his team's third goal in a matter of 6:42.
  • Ciancio took a wrister from the top of the right faceoff circle 38 seconds into the third period for the Purple Knights' fourth goal, and second power-play marker, on helpers from Gagnon and McCarthy.
  • Murray netted the lone goal for the Penmen at 9:18 on a deflection off a slapshot from Amante at the point to cut the Purple Knight lead to 4-1.
  • Manahan made six saves after the goal to keep the Penmen from shortening the lead any further.
