Regionally-Ranked Women's Soccer Ties New Haven, 1-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College women's soccer team tied the University of New Haven, 1-1, during Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday at Duffy Field. The Purple Knights were seventh in this week's United Soccer Coaches East Region poll.

  • First-year back Julia Palmese (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) forced Daley into a diving save in the seventh minute, and classmate Sarah Gormley (East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) sent a follow-up bid off the right post.
  • In the 24th minute, Mitchell sent a pass that Ferdinand slid out to cover under pressure from another Charger.
  • Both teams had chances unanswered off of giveaways a little more than a minute apart, with the sequence concluding when Ferdinand dove to stop sophomore Lola Wood's shot from just outside the box in the 61st minute.
  • In the 68th minute, Williams struck from the edge of the box, slipping a shot inside the left post to provide her team a 1-0 edge.
  • Ferdinand maintained the lead in the 80th minute, jumping to bat a corner kick cross out of danger.
  • Mitchell tied the game in the 82nd minute, slipping through the defense and extending to tap a shot inside the right netting.
  • Junior Kayleigh Crowell (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) nearly found the winner in the 85th minute, but Daley slid out to deny her breakaway chance.
