Women's Ice Hockey's Third-Period Rally Forces Overtime in 4-3 Loss at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team used a frenzied third-period comeback to force overtime before losing to Saint Anselm College, 4-3, on Saturday during New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) play in Sullivan Arena.

GAME FACTS
  • The Purple Knights outshot the Hawks, 40-31, while holding a 37-28 lead in faceoff wins. The visitors earned 15 blocks to Saint Anselm's 14.
THE ACTION
  • Turner jabbed in a loose puck out front to begin the scoring at 17:47 of the opening period.
  • The Hawks pushed their lead to 3-0 in the second frame, first as Donovan poked home a rebound on a power play with 7:37 gone. At 18:20, Webber scored from the right point.
  • Saint Michael's leveled the contest with a three-goal flurry in a matter of 4:06 during the middle portion of the third period.
  • Jerylo picked the right upper corner at 9:12 before Newpower sent in a power-play shot from the left point that made it 3-2 at 11:49.
  • Shortly thereafter, Jarvis forced a takeaway at the blue line and beat Lalande to her blocker side with a wrist shot from the left circle at 13:18, tying the contest.
  • Including the scoring frenzy, Saint Michael's held a 20-4 lead in shots over the final 19 minutes of the contest. In the 3-on-3 overtime, the visitors took six of the eight shots, including as graduate student Mary Leys (Newport, R.I./Saint George's School) was denied twice out front around 1:37 by a sliding Lalande.
  • With 59.8 seconds to go in overtime, Turner picked the far top corner from the low left circle after taking junior Brooklyn Schneiderhan's pass from behind the net.
