Men's Soccer Falls at No. 9 Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College men's soccer team lost to No. 9 Franklin Pierce University, 3-0, during Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday at Sodexo Field. The two-time defending national champion Ravens' national ranking is according to the United Soccer Coaches.

THE ACTION
  • Smith kept the Ravens off the board with a diving save of Araujo's bid toward the right post in the 20th minute.
  • The Purple Knights earned a corner kick in the 23rd minute, with junior Drew Kull's (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) entry bouncing out toward senior Alessandro Pescina (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela/Colegio Loyola Gumilla), who was unable to get a bid through the Raven back line.
  • Smith came through with a stellar stop of graduate student Julen Martin's drive from 35 yards in the 32nd minute, reaching an outstretched arm to bat away the bid with his right hand.
  • In the 48th minute, junior Jack Andrews (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) slipped a pass through the box a step beyond first-year Yihun Burnham (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) crashing the right post.
  • Franklin Pierce broke through with two goals in a matter of 3:50. Chisholm netted the winner at 55:15, taking a lead pass at the edge of the box, turning and shooting. Araujo doubled the advantage in the 60th minute, volleying twice to himself before finishing into the left corner beyond a diving Smith.
  • Avendaño padded the Ravens' lead in the 82nd minute after taking two lead passes and making a move at the right side of the box and finishing.
