Cummings' Brace Sends Regionally-Ranked Women's Soccer to 2-1 Win Over Pace

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Senior back Christina Cummings (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) scored a pair of first-half goals to send the regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College women's soccer team past Pace University, 2-1, on Saturday at Duffy Field during Northeast-10 Conference play. The Purple Knights, who were ninth in this week's United Soccer Coaches East Region poll, are off to their best start ever at 7-1-1.

  • Cummings put the Purple Knights on the board in the seventh minute, cleaning up a corner kick sequence following Gormley's pass.
  • In the 16th minute, Cummings finished a run by slotting home Kosiba's through ball. DelVecchio also assisted.
  • Kosiba nearly made it 3-0 in the 19th minute, but her bid was denied by Cole's diving stop.
  • Dubois halved the deficit at 38:37, chipping Unnarsdóttir's cross into the upper left corner of the net.
  • Junior Ava Viebrock almost leveled the teams in the 51st minute, getting behind the defense but pushing a ball wide right with Anastopoulos approaching.
  • The Purple Knights had four golden opportunities to extend the lead between the 57th and 83rd minutes, but Cole denied a trio while a fourth attempt was headed high.
  • Pace's final chance came in the 85th minute, when junior Alexis Lee sent a free kick high of the bar.
