THE ACTION
- Junior Dana Welch's (Howell, N.J./Donovan Catholic) kill tied the teams at 2-2 in the opening set before Kocak had two kills in an 11-3 response, and the hosts never again led by fewer than four points.
- Kocak's two kills and one block keyed a 9-2 run that provided the Hawks a 12-4 lead in the second set. McKay had a kill and block in a 6-0 response, but Saint Anselm came out of an ensuing timeout with an 9-1 run, with Frano lending three kills, to pull away.
- Kills from four Purple Knights helped the visitors lead 13-7 early in set No. 3 and, after Frano's kill made it 19-17, Saint Michael's used a late 5-0 run that featured four host errors to clinch the set win.
- Farnan's three straight aces and following kill capped a 6-0 tally that put the Purple and Gold up 10-5 in the fourth set, and the Hawks never came closer than two points from there.
- Neither team led by more than two points in the fifth and deciding set until a pair of errors completed a 3-0 Saint Michael's run that produced an 11-8 edge for the visitors. After Frano and Kocak dropped consecutive kills to make it 13-12, Schulze's kill brought the Purple Knights to match point. However, Kocak had a hand in the next four points, with three kills and a block, as Saint Anselm salvaged the victory.
