BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team used a 9-1 scoring run to pull past the University of Bridgeport, 10-3, in its season opener on Saturday at Knights Field. The visiting Purple Knights were fourth this this week's New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) poll.

THE ACTION

• Simonson netted the opening goal off of senior Peter Canning's (Plainville, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) pass at 8:23 of the first quarter.
• Orebiyi (6:59) and Schoenfelder (4:31) countered by tallying 2:28 apart to give the hosts a 2-1 edge, with the second marker a man-up effort.
• Saint Michael's responded with the next six goals, as Riggs tied the game at 13:33 of the second frame before Woods put his team in front to stay with 4:26 remaining.
• Chirgwin scored man-up at 10:48 of the third before Wilson won the ensuing draw and scooted downfield for a goal five seconds later. Morgan finished a flurry of three goals in a matter of 1:57 by scoring at 8:51 with a man advantage.
• Riggs (6:53) made it 7-2 before the end of the stanza, and Hughes scored twice and Woods once in the fourth quarter.
