Baseball Swept in Non-League Doubleheader by Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team was swept in a non-league twinbill by Bentley University, 12-8 and 9-3 in five innings, on Saturday at Waltham High School.

DOUBLEHEADER FACTS
  • Junior Max Kolifrath (Millbury, Mass./Millbury) slugged a pair of triples in the opener, becoming the 11th Purple Knight with a pair of three-baggers in the same game, and the first since Matt Beaulieu '10 on April 15, 2008, at Middlebury College. However, Kolifrath was the first with two triples in a game outside the State of Vermont since John Clarke '22 on May 28, 1921, at Clarkson University.
  • First-years Trevor Arsenault (Websterville, Vt./Spaulding) and Colin Kinsella (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) picked up their first collegiate hits in the opener, and classmate Jacob Smith (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) added his first college hit in the nightcap.

THE ACTION
  • Walonis knocked in a first-inning run before Bentley scored three more times in the second, with Hunter Smith adding an RBI single.
  • The Purple Knights scored the next seven runs. Balian's two-run triple came amid a three-run fourth, Kolifrath's two-out RBI triple tied the game in the fifth, and Kinsella's two-run double sparked a three-run sixth.
  • Bentley got three right back in the home half, as Rizzuto's two-run triple was immediately followed by Walonis' RBI knock.
  • In a 7-7 game, the Falcons scored five runs on five hits and three errors in the eighth. Rizzuto (double) and Hunter Smith (single) had the lone run-scoring hits that left the infield.

  • Bentley scored four runs on six hits in the home half of the third. Purcell's two-run double was the big blow.
  • The hosts tallied five more runs in the fifth to pull away. Sencaj's hit an RBI triple in the frame.
