Softball Swept in NE10 Opener by Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College softball team opened Northeast-10 Conference play with a pair of setbacks at Pace University, 5-0 and 5-2, on Friday at the Pace Softball Field. The Purple Knights returned to action for the first time in 14 days.

THE ACTION
  • Shea's three-run homer in the first inning staked Pace to an early lead.
  • Alvarado's RBI single in the second extended the advantage to 4-0, and she added another RBI knock in the fourth.
  • The Purple Knights put a single runner on base in three different innings, including when Davidson singled with one down in the sixth, but none advanced as far as third base.

THE ACTION
  • Davidson led off the game with a double before Devens was hit by a pitch with two down in a scoreless opening frame.
  • Gorman scored on a wild pitch in the home half to kickstart a two-run inning, and sophomore Riley Jenkins added to the lead with an RBI single in the third inning.
  • Davidson hit a bases-loaded sac fly in the fourth before Connor scored on an error following Devens' double in the fifth, and the visitors trailed only 3-2.
  • Picerno added insurance with a two-out, two-run home run in the sixth.
  • Connor and Devens singled with one out in the seventh, but consecutive batters representing the tying run were retired to end the contest.
