Regionally-Ranked Men's Tennis Beats Regionally-Ranked Hamilton, 5-2

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College men's tennis team knocked off regionally-ranked Hamilton College, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon during the first event in the recently resurfaced Tarrant Recreation Center. The Purple Knights were ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll, while the Continentals were 20th in the most recent ITA Division III Northeast Region rankings.

MATCH FACTS
  • Barroso and Du Plessis improved to 13-6 as a doubles tandem this school year, breaking Torr Terranova '08 and John Lescure's '09 16-year-old program record for victories by a doubles duo (12). Both also broke Jason Boucher's '23 year-old school mark for doubles wins in a season (12).
  • The Purple Knights downed a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe for the first time.
  • The teams met for the second time, having last squared off on March 20, 2014.
THE ACTION
  • The Purple Knights won their last two doubles matches to claim the opening point. Barroso and Du Plessis earned a 6-3 win in the second spot before Brooker and Li picked up a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
  • In singles play, the hosts eased to a 3-0 lead thanks to Barroso blanking his foe at No. 3 before Moser earned a 6-2, 6-3 win in the fourth spot.
  • Li lost a close 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) decision at No. 2, but Du Plessis clinched the team victory with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 triumph in the first position.
  • Van den Broek pushed the lead to 5-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the fifth spot.
  • Brooker lost a one-set advantage during a 0-6, 6-3, 10-6 setback at No. 6, falling in a third-set super tiebreaker after trimming a 7-3 deficit to 7-6.
