JAN PHYL VILLAGE, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College softball team opened its season by splitting a pair of contests on Friday during The Spring Games at the Auburndale Softball Complex. The Purple Knights downed Dominican (N.Y.) University, 7-6, in the second contest after losing their opener to Lynn University, 9-0 in six innings.

THE ACTION
- After Saint Michael's left the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, Lynn scored four two-out runs in the home half and never looked back. Senior Kyra Sunga's two-run single was the big blow.
- Buzzell cracked a two-run homer in the third before Riley hit a solo homer two batters later, and Gonzalez's two-run homer to straightaway center field brought the mercy rule into effect in the sixth.

THE ACTION
- Salcido knocked a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
- The Purple Knights scored four runs in the second, with Davidson providing a tying sac fly and Johns plating Edgerly with the go-ahead run on a double.
- Salcido's RBI single made it 4-3 in the third, but Devens drilled a two-run double in the fourth before Morey added an RBI single later in the inning.
- McIntosh's RBI single keyed a two-run fifth before a fielder's choice brought home Dominican's sixth run in the sixth.
- After McIntosh led off the seventh with a walk, Simpson induced three straight ground balls to stem the rally.
