Softball Loses Pair of One-Run Decisions in Florida, Connor Reaches 100 Hits

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College softball team lost a pair of one-run decisions on Saturday during The Spring Games, 11-10 in 11 innings against Indiana University of Pennsylvania and 5-4 to Notre Dame (Ohio) College, at the DiamondPlex Softball Complex. Senior Meghan Connor (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans/Endicott) registered her 100th career hit during the twinbill.
 
DOUBLEHEADER FACTS
  • The Purple Knights have opposed Indiana four times, all in Florida. Each of their three losses in the series have come by one run in extra innings. Saint Michael's faced Notre Dame for the first time.
  • The Purple and Gold's 11-inning game with Indiana was its longest since an 11-inning affair on May 1, 2006, against Bentley University.
  • Connor recorded 30 hits as a first-year at NCAA Division III power Endicott College and has 72 in a Saint Michael's uniform. For her career, Connor owns 102 hits in 106 games.
  • Junior Jenna Devens (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) pushed her career hit total to 99 on Saturday. Only 13 Purple Knights have 100 hits.
  • First-year Brynlyn Owens (Limon, Colo./Limon) picked up her first collegiate hit in the opener.

THE ACTION
  • Sroczinski's two-run single keyed a three-run bottom of the third that gave Saint Michael's a 3-1 lead before the teams traded five-run sixth innings.
  • Griffin's two-run single was the big blow, and the Crimson Hawks took a 7-3 advantage into the bottom half.
  • Saint Michael's responded with five two-out runs, taking an 8-7 lead on Sroczinski's two-run triple.
  • A two-out error plated the tying run in the seventh inning before the teams exchanged runs in the ninth, on junior Jordan Sylvia's two-out RBI single and Mollison's RBI knock.
  • Indiana scored on an error in the 10th, but Davidson's RBI single tied the teams at 10.
  • Truax's RBI single put the Crimson Hawks ahead to stay in the 11th inning, and Mollison reached third base with one down in the home half but was stranded.

  • Johns tripled in Davidson in the top of the first inning before coming home on Connor's single to make it 2-0.
  • Held without a hit through three innings, Notre Dame broke through with five runs on four hits and two errors in the fourth frame. Blake's two-run single tied the game before DeWeese's RBI single capped the outburst.
  • After a two-out error brought in a Purple Knight run in the sixth, Connor's RBI single cut the deficit to 5-4.
  • Saint Michael's went down in order in the seventh.
