Morey's Walk-Off Sacrifice Fly Caps Softball's Doubleheader Sweep of AIC

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Junior Jenna Devens (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) spun a five-hit shutout in the opener before classmate Kaylee Morey (Stonington, Maine/Deer Isle-Stonington) capped a 3-for-3 second contest with the walk-off sac fly as the Saint Michael's College softball team swept American International College, 5-0 and 3-2, on Sunday during Northeast-10 Conference play on Doc Jacobs Field.

  • The Purple Knights have now won five consecutive series meetings, their longest streak ever against AIC.

THE ACTION
  • Edgerly scored the eventual winning run on a two-out passed ball in the third inning and was among a handful of Purple Knights who contributed to a strong defensive showing.
  • Saint Michael's used a pickoff and a pair of ground-ball double plays in the opening four innings to keep AIC off the board before center fielder Edgerly finished a third double play by cutting down a runner trying to score from third on a fly ball in the sixth frame.
  • In between, the Purple Knights pulled away with three runs on just one hit and two errors in the fifth, all with two down. Devens ripped a two-run double before another run scored on an error.
  • Davidson padded the lead with an RBI knock in the sixth.

THE ACTION
  • After AIC left two on in the top of the first inning, Davidson led off the home half with a double before scoring on Connor's single back up the middle.
  • Devens' two-out RBI double made it 2-0 in the third.
  • Davidson set down 13 consecutive batters between the first and fifth innings before the Yellow Jackets left a pair on base in the fifth.
  • Gora's infield single with two out in the sixth was AIC's first hit since Wells led off the game with an infield knock. Cividanes came through with a two-out RBI single, but the Yellow Jackets stranded a pair.
  • The Purple Knights left the bases loaded in the home half before Harzula led off the seventh with a double that just missed clearing the wall in left center. She later scored the tying run on a fielder's choice.
  • Connor started the bottom half by reaching on an error and Devens followed with a walk. After Owens' sac bunt moved the runners 60 feet, Morey's line drive to the left fielder plated Connor with the winning run.
