Regionally-Ranked Men's Tennis Suffers 5-2 Setback at Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. - The regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College men's tennis team lost to Bentley University, 5-2, on Sunday during Northeast-10 Conference play on the Brandeis University courts. The Purple Knights were ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll.

MATCH NOTES
  • Barroso picked up his 22nd win of the season between singles and doubles play, tying for third in program history. The victory was also the 51st of his career, which is good for a tie for eighth in school annals.
THE ACTION
  • The Purple Knights won the opening doubles point with a comeback after their No. 2 tandem of senior Jackson Moser (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point) and sophomore Julius van den Broek (Bergschenhoek, The Netherlands/Wolfert Lyceum) lost the opening match by a 6-3 count.
  • At No. 3, Brooker and Weijer trailed 3-0 before winning the final six games in a 6-3 triumph.
  • Barroso and Du Plessis clinched the opening point by earning a 6-4 win in the top spot.
  • Bentley countered by capturing the first four singles matches, yielding only six games in those contest, en route to securing the team victory.
  • Brooker earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 before van den Broek capped the day with a 6-3, 6-3 loss at No. 3.
