Baseball Loses 9-5 Decision to Regionally-Ranked Bentley

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team lost to regionally-ranked Bentley University, 9-5, in Northeast-10 Conference play on Friday at Doc Jacobs Field, as the Falcons broke a tie with four ninth-inning runs. Bentley was eighth in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region poll.

  • Kolifrath's six home runs this season are exceeded in program history only by Tony Gomes '81 (8 in 1979), Trevor Allen '19 (7 in 2019) and Kevin Harutunian '06 (7 in 2004).
THE ACTION
  • Senior Jackson Walonis' fly ball was lost in the sun for a two-run double with two down in the second inning before Kolifrath brought Saint Michael's within 2-1 by leading off the home half with a home run to right center.
  • Graduate student Brian Lindsay and Pappas hit back-to-back solo home runs to begin the fifth inning.
  • Moynihan scored on a passed ball with two out in the home half before the Purple Knights plated runs in the sixth on first-year Dom Tetta's (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) groundout and a two-out error to tie the game.
  • In the following frame, first-year Tad Giardina (Reading, Mass./Saint Mary's) legged out a potential inning-ending double-play ball to bring Kolifrath home with the go-ahead run.
