Field Hockey Defeated in NE10 Opener at Mercy, 4-2

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College field hockey team opened Northeast-10 Conference play with a 4-2 loss to Mercy University on Sunday at Mercy Field.

GAME FACTS
  • Cameron's 25 saves were the fourth-most by a Purple Knight in program history.
  • Loughlin pushed her career point total to 88 while netting her 35th goal, tying Jilby Danis '04 for sixth in program annals.
THE ACTION
  • The Purple Knights led 2-1 after a frenzied opening 10 minutes. Medeiros put home the initial goal with 4:46 gone, cashing in on Nigolian's redirection of a Loughlin hit. Only 1:26 later, Rosenfeld leveled the teams with Mercy's third shot during a corner sequence, a blast from just inside the arc.
  • Saint Michael's went back ahead shortly thereafter, as Loughlin pushed in the rebound of first-year Ruby Harrington's (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) saved shot at 9:47.
  • The 2-1 lead held until the late stages of the opening half, when Trickel tapped in a pass at the goal line at 24:58. Rosenfeld netted the game-winner 3:29 later, quickly turning in the circle and slipping a shot through Cameron.
  • Preston added insurance during a 48th-minute corner sequence, redirecting a pass from out front.
