COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team lost a six-hour decision to regionally-ranked Assumption University, 4-3, during Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday. The match began mid-afternoon on the SMC Tennis Courts before concluding in the Tarrant Recreation Center after sunset. The Greyhounds were ranked 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll.

MATCH FACTS
- With his 55th career victory between singles and doubles, Barroso tied Ben Wynn '94 and former teammate Josh Weiss '23 for fifth in program history. His 28th doubles win broke a tie with Weiss as he took over sole possession of seventh place.
- Barroso and Du Plessis won their 17th match as a double tandem, tying them with two other pairs for third in school annals.
THE ACTION
- The Purple Knights swept doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. After Barroso and Du Plessis blanked their foes at No. 1, Effler and Macpherson sided for a 6-3 win in the third spot that clinched the team point.
- In the second position, Moser and van den Broek trailed 6-5 before winning their next game to force a tiebreaker. After being down 3-2, they rattled off the final five points, with Moser serving out the clinching point of a 7-6 (7-3) triumph.
- Assumption won the first three completed singles matches to come within one point of clinching the team victory. Barroso lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, Du Plessis was downed by a 6-2, 6-4 count in the top spot, and Moser's 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 defeat at No. 4 made it 3-1.
- Van den Broek claimed his second victory of the day behind a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win in the third position.
- With Effler and first-year Benji Hegedus-Kyster (Budapest, Hungary/British International School Budapest) both in the middle of their second sets, the match moved inside.
- In the fifth spot, Effler trailed 4-2 in his second set at the time of the interruption before finishing off a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) victory for his second win of the day, leveling the teams and leaving the match to Hegedus-Kyster at No. 6.
- After taking his opening set, Hegedus-Kyster lost a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision, as the Greyhounds won the clinching point.
