Women's Soccer Suffers First Blemish with 2-1 Loss at Regionally-Ranked Saint Anselm

Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team saw the best start in program history come to an end on Tuesday with a 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference loss at regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College on Melucci Field. The Hawks were fifth in this week's United Soccer Coaches East Region poll.

THE ACTION
  • The Hawks went ahead 1:29 into the contest when McCleary one-touched DiGilio's end-line cross past a rushing Anastopoulos.
  • Just 2:27 later, Wnek made it 2-0 on a similar play, one-touching DiGilio's cross across the goal mouth into the right netting.
  • The Purple Knights halved their deficit in the 54th minute, as DelVecchio dropped a cross into the right side of the box, where Brookes slipped a shot past a rushing Swidorski.
  • With her team down a goal, DelVecchio lofted a shot from 25 yards toward the right post late in the 84th minute, with Swidorski securing the catch. DelVecchio quickly turned and shot from the top of the box in the 87th minute for her team's final bid.
