Women's Ice Hockey Loses 3-1 Decision to Saint Anselm

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost to Saint Anselm College, 3-1, on Friday evening to begin a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) weekend series at Cairns Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Senior Tyra Turner rushed through the zone but was denied point blank by DeMarinis' right pad with 6:36 gone in the first period.
  • Donovan broke the deadlock with 8:19 gone, taking junior Mackenzie Moss' push pass and gaining the zone before scoring five-hole from the right circle.
  • DeMarinis made a stellar glove save of Turner from the right circle at 12:45.
  • Gerebi forced a giveaway deep in the Saint Anselm zone late in the period before seeing her bid from the right circle stopped at 16:32.
  • Leys worked a 2-on-1 with senior Angelina Ruiz (Independence, Minn./Gentry Academy) around 5:15 of the second period, but her one-time pass was pushed just wide of the net. Leys then had a pair of point-blank shots denied with six minutes gone.
  • Saint Michael's tied the game shortly thereafter, with LeBlanc redirecting Quinn's shot from the right point at 6:34. Jarvis added the secondary helper.
  • DeMarinis made a blocker save of Moss' attempt during a 2-on-1 rush at 16:17, but Donovan scored her second goal only 20 seconds later, converting a shot off the post and in after taking sophomore Hailey Tullo's centering pass.
  • DeMarinis made back-to-back saves of close-range shots around 2:25 of the third period to keep the score 2-1.
  • Dogan padded the lead at 7:42 on a power play, flipping a fluttering puck beyond DeMarinis' grasp.
  • First-year Julia Chedel (Haverhill, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) nearly brought her team within a goal but rung the post from the right point at 11:04.
