Women's Basketball Converts Rebounding Lead into 54-42 Win Over Southern New Hampshire

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team converted a decisive rebounding advantage into a 54-42 win over Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday during Northeast-10 Conference play in the Ross Sports Center.

  • Saint Michael's posted a 54-32 rebounding lead, including 20-7 on the offensive glass, which led to a key 16-8 advantage in second-chance points.
  • The Purple and Gold held Southern New Hampshire to 2-for-19 three-point shooting.
  • The Purple Knights earned their first series win since Feb. 6, 2019, also at home, avenging an 85-59 loss in Manchester, N.H., on Nov. 26.

THE ACTION
  • Franchi and Montplaisir buried three-pointers en route to the Purple Knights leading 7-2, and Tyler's jumper had Saint Michael's ahead 16-7 with 1:29 left in the opening quarter.
  • Consecutive baskets by Gordon and Wager cut the Penmen deficit to 22-16 at 5:14 of the second period before Franchi sandwiched three-pointers around a Talbot triple in a 1:15 stretch, and the hosts led by 15 (31-16) at 3:35.
  • Wager scored the final five points of the half, and the visitors were down 33-23 at intermission.
  • Tyler and Furch put home the first two baskets of the second half, as Saint Michael's never led by fewer than 10 points during the second half, holding the Penmen to 6-for-25 (24.0%) shooting, including 0-for-9 from three.
  • Montplaisir knocked down a three at 2:11 of the third stanza to push the lead to 45-29 for the first of two 16-point leads in the period, and the hosts went ahead by as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter.
