THE ACTION
- After juniors Viktor Boban (Zagreb, Croatia/Franjo Bucar/Frostburg State) and Garrett Brooker (Charleston, S.C./Oceanside Collegiate Academy) lost at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, the next two matches were decided by dueling 7-5 finals, with the Penmen taking both.
- Sophomore Richard Lin (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and first-year Ferm Koppelmans (Veghel, The Netherlands/Udens College) were downed in the No. 3 spot, giving the visitors the clinching point, before Macpherson and senior Simon Lundholm (Le Luc, France/CNED) lost at No. 2.
- Macpherson tied the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, but Boban fell in the top spot, 6-3, 6-4. His result came against a Penman who remained unbeaten in dual matches this year, with the seven games lost a season high in those affairs, and who had recently advanced to the round of 16 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championship.
- Brooker lost in a three-set affair at No. 3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, but van den Broek brought the Purple Knights within 3-2 behind a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win in the second spot.
- The visitors clinched the win when Lundholm was trimmed 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 5 for his first setback in six decisions this fall. Koppelmans fell in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-1, 3-6, 10-6, in the sixth position.
