Matt Dickie Named Saint Michael's Strength & Conditioning Coach

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College Associate Director of Athletics Kristen Milne announced the hire of Matt Dickie as the Department of Athletics' strength & conditioning coach on Wednesday. Dickie will work in concert with the Sports Medicine staff while developing, implementing and overseeing comprehensive strength & conditioning programs for the College's 22 varsity sports and nearly 500 varsity student-athletes. He fully begins his duties next week.

"I'm so excited to get back into college strength & conditioning," said Dickie. "There's something different about working with college athletes than working with any of the other athletes that I've ever coached with, whether it was professional or high school athletes. College athletes are just a ton of fun to work with. I'm super excited to be back in Vermont, it's essentially a homecoming for me after being at UVM."

Dickie joins Saint Michael's after spending the 2024-25 season with the American Hockey League's minor league Springfield (Mass.) Thunderbirds, serving as assistant strength & conditioning coach. He assisted in the development and implementation of the strength & conditioning and rehabilitation programs for the top minor league affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues. In that role, Dickie also collected, analyzed and interpreted performance data.

For the prior four school years, Dickie was an athletic performance coach at nearby Division I University of Vermont. As an athletic performance coaching assistant in 2020-21, Dickie primarily worked with the Alpine and Nordic skiing programs and the track & field programs' throwers and vaulters. He also assisted with all basketball and lacrosse programs, field hockey, men's soccer, and track & field sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers. Between July 2021 and July 2024, Dickie was an assistant athletic performance coach, charged with overseeing both skiing programs and men's soccer while providing additional support to men's lacrosse student-athletes.

Dickie completed his master's degree in physical activity and wellness science in 2025 after earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts in kinesiology in 2016. While an undergraduate, he interned for two years as an athletic trainer with UMass' Division I football team. Dickie is a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and is also USA Weightlifting Level 1 certified.

After graduating from college, Dickie played box lacrosse for the Vermont Voyageurs and Chicago Outlaws, and served as a lacrosse coach and strength & conditioning coach at York Community High School in Illinois.
