Lundholm's Singles Win Clinches Men's Tennis' 4-3 Victory at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior Simon Lundholm (Le Luc, France/CNED) earned the tiebreaking, clinching victory as the Saint Michael's College men's tennis team trimmed Connecticut College, 4-3, on Sunday at the Connecticut College Tennis Courts.

THE ACTION
  • Boban and Brooker took the opening doubles contest, 6-2, at No. 1 to improve to 4-2 this season.
  • After van den Broek and first-year Ferm Koppelmans (Veghel, The Netherlands/Udens College) lost 6-3 in the third spot, Lundholm and Macpherson nearly clinched the doubles point for the Purple Knights but fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (9-7), at No. 2.
  • The Camels led 2-0 after the visitors defaulted at No. 6 singles, but the first three completed matches went to Purple Knights, who led 3-2. Brooker (6-3, 6-2), van den Broek (6-3, 6-4) and Macpherson (6-3, 6-4) all won in straight sets at No. 2, 1 and 3, respectively.
  • Koppelmans was downed 6-1, 7-5 in the fifth position, leaving the teams tied 3-3.
  • Down to his match for the deciding point, Lundholm moved to 5-0 this season by virtue of a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory in the fourth spot, only his second career win playing that high in the lineup.
