Men's Ice Hockey Loses in Overtime at Amherst, 3-2

THE ACTION
  • Velocci scored the only goal of the first period, banging in a rebound at the right post with 6:44 gone.
  • Otherwise, Plunkett stopped 14 shots in the opening stanza and all 13 sent his way in the second.
  • The Purple Knights found the equalizer at 7:29. During 4-on-4 play, sophomore Cole Douglas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) pinned the puck carrier against the end boards, with Lee picking up the loose puck and outletting to Last at his own blue line. After gaining the zone, he crossed into the right circle and beat De Luca to his blocker side.
  • Bloom put his team ahead at 11:04 of the second period with a shorthanded marker, batting away a pass at the blue line before picking up the loose puck in neutral ice and skating in alone on De Luca, finishing to his backhand.
  • Only three seconds after the Mammoth power play expired, Jesse took a redirected pass in the right circle and roofed a shot to Plunkett's glove side at 12:53.
  • Plunkett made three saves during an Amherst power play that ended in the final minute of regulation to ensure overtime.
  • In the 3-on-3 extra session, Flynn took the only shot with 38 seconds gone, moving from the right point into the left circle and snapping a shot glove side for the winner.
