Women's Ice Hockey Downed Assumption in NEWHA Action, 3-1

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost to Assumption University, 3-1, on Friday night during a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) game in the Worcester Ice Center.

GAME FACTS
  • The Purple Knights scored the only power-play goal of the night while also not committing a single penalty.
  • The Purple Knights held a 14-4 blocked shots lead, while the Greyhounds held advantages in shots (44-24) and faceoff wins (22-16).
THE ACTION
  • The Greyhounds struck first at 1:14 in the first period on Hanrahan's goal, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. Agerter and Lilley added helpers.
  • Assumption doubled its lead at the halfway mark of the first period, when Agerter scored on assists from Lilley and Hanrahan.
  • Chedel scored on the power play at 10:56 after passes from graduate student Mary Leys (Newport, R.I./Saint George's School) and senior Angelina Ruiz (Independence, Minn./Gentry Academy), banking a shot off of a Greyhound to cut the Assumption lead down to 2-1.
  • Neither team found the back of the net in the second period, with DeMarinis and Weiser making 16 and 13 saves in the second stanza, respectively.
  • The Greyhounds scored an empty-net goal at 19:19 in the third period after the Purple Knights pulled DeMarinis for an extra skater to ice the game.
