Men's Tennis Loses to Nationally-Ranked Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team lost to Middlebury College, 7-0, on Saturday in the Nelson Recreation Center. The Panthers were tied for fifth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III rankings after advancing to the 2024 national semifinals.

THE ACTION
  • Senior Jackson Moser (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point) and sophomore Garrett Brooker (Charleston, S.C./Oceanside Collegiate Academy) came closest to winning their doubles match, trailing only 4-3 at No. 2 before dropping a 6-3 decision.
  • First-years Brayden Effler (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) and Jamie Macpherson (Durham, United Kingdom/Framwellgate School Durham) were similarly close in the third spot, trailing 3-2 during a 6-2 loss.
  • Senior Sergio Barroso (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Montpellier) made only his second career appearance at No. 1 singles and put together a 6-2, 6-3 showing in a loss to the 10th-ranked player in the nation, who also finished as ITA Division III New England Regional Championship A singles runner-up last fall.
  • Brooker took five games in a 6-1, 6-4 loss in the sixth spot, and first-year Benji Hegedus-Kyster (Budapest, Hungary/British International School Budapest) won three games at No. 5.
