THE ACTION
  • The teams traded one scoreless power-play opportunity apiece in the opening period, with LeBlanc having a shot during each denied by Thompson.
  • The Purple Knights held a 13-7 lead in second-period shots, including sending three on net during a 26-second stretch of 4-on-4 play around the 13-minute mark, but each were stopped.
  • Late in a Saint Michael's power play, LIU broke the deadlock, as a takeaway along the boards led to a 2-on-1 break, during which Dyczkowski had an initial shot from the slot stopped before slipping a puck through Lavender on the rebound with 35 seconds remaining.
  • Lavender stopped the first 14 shots sent her way in the third period to keep the Purple Knights within striking distance, including six during a pair of LIU power plays.
  • With Lavender pulled for an extra skater and Saint Michael's on a power play, Weilandt flipped a loose puck in the slot the length of the ice for an empty-net goal and the Sharks' second shorthanded tally of the game with 2:15 remaining.
  • Ruiz's bid at 17:57, which came with the goalie again pulled, was saved for the Purple Knights' final attempt on net.
