Softball Splits NE10 Doubleheader with Bentley on Senior Day

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College softball team defeated Bentley University, 8-4, in a rain-shortened five innings during game two of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field. The Falcons won game one, 3-0. The Purple Knights honored seniors Jenna Devens (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany), Kaylee Morey (Stonington, Maine/Deer Isle-Stonington), Kiera Parker (Weymouth, Mass./Framingham/Stevenson), and Riley Sroczinski (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) during a pregame ceremony.

DOUBLEHEADER FACTS
  • Devens is now tied for 16th in NE10 history for home runs in a career, launching her 27th blast in game two of today's doubleheader.

THE ACTION
  • Both pitchers worked effectively in the opening innings, with neither arm yielding a run through the first four innings.
  • Bentley broke through in the fifth inning when Burke scored on a 6-3-5 double play that ended the inning.
  • The Falcons added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to make it 3-0, with Harris scoring on an error and Burke adding an RBI single.
  • Morey walked with one down in the home half but was unable to score.

THE ACTION
  • The Falcons threatened early in the top of the first, but Davidson recorded a strikeout and center fielder Edgerly made a diving catch for the third out to strand two runners in scoring position.
  • The Purple and Gold scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI doubles from Devens and Bishop to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
  • Edgerly knocked a single to right center field in the bottom of the second inning, scoring Nickerson and Smith and give the Purple Knights a 4-0 lead. Devens launched a three-run home run to left center two batters later to put the Purple Knights up 7-0.
  • The Falcons scored two runs on infield grounders in the top of the third inning before Morrison and Harris both doubled in the top of the fourth inning to drive in a run and make the score 7-4.
  • Bishop hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Purple Knights an 8-4 lead before the game was called due to weather.
