Baseball Swept by AIC on Senior Day

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team capped a school-record 15-game homestand with a pair of Northeast-10 Conference losses to American International College, 11-4 and 6-2 in seven innings, on Monday during Senior Day at Doc Jacobs Field.
 
The Purple Knights recognized their eight seniors prior to their final career home games: Evan Balian (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield), Trent Balian (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield/Worcester State), Ayendy Gomez (New York, N.Y./Health Careers and Sciences/Mohawk Valley CC), Preston Hewett (Plainfield, N.H./Lebanon), Max Kolifrath (Millbury, Mass./Millbury), Jack Menard (Tewksbury, Mass./Tabor Academy), Terence Moynihan (Stoneham, Mass./Saint Mary's) and Filly Santos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Park West).

THE ACTION
  • Frometa lofted a third-inning sac fly to account for the game's first run before Segura's two-out RBI single made it 2-0 in the fourth.
  • Sophomore Colin Kinsella (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) knocked a sac fly of his own in the home half before Evan Balian scored on a two-out error later in the frame to tie the game.
  • A pair of sac flies keyed AIC's three-run fifth before another sac fly and Serce's RBI double made it 7-2 in the sixth.
  • Cavossa and Kolifrath came through with RBI knocks in the seventh to bring the hosts within 7-4.
  • Segura and Frometa both added two-run singles in a four-run ninth inning.

THE ACTION
  • Serce's three-run home run in the first inning gave AIC the lead for good.
  • Evan Balian and Kolifrath were both hit by pitches with two down in the home half before Serce induced a flyout.
  • A pair of run-scoring groundouts and Edvardsen's two-out RBI single accounted for another three runs in the fifth.
  • With Saint Michael's trailing 6-0 and down to its last out in the seventh inning, Cavossa and Evan Balian drew back-to-back walks to load the bases, and Kolifrath's two-run single to right center made it 6-2. After Kinsella's walk reloaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate, a fly ball ended the contest.
