COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse senior
Matthew Frawley (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) and women's cross country/Nordic skiing senior
Izzy Quam (Stillwater, Minn./Mounds Park Academy) both earned the Roger F. Keleher '15 Award, the Department of Athletics' oldest annual accolade, on Thursday during a senior ceremony in Alliot Student Center. The Keleher Award has recognized outstanding scholar-athletes of the College's graduating class who maintain high scholastic averages since 1954.
Â
Frawley reached career highs in goals and points as a senior, finishing with a two-goal performance at nationally-ranked Bentley University. Away from the field, he was a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative and has been inducted into honor societies Chi Alpha Sigma (college athlete), Delta Epsilon Sigma (Catholic colleges), Omicron Delta Epsilon (economics), Phi Alpha Theta (history), and Phi Beta Kappa (liberal arts and sciences). A Northeast-10 Conference Academic Honor Roll qualifier each semester and a two-time Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievement Award winner, Frawley owns a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average as an economics major and history and data science double minor.
Â
A two-year Nordic skiing captain and cross country captain as a senior,
Quam is a member of Feminists for Equality and honor societies Chi Alpha Sigma (college athlete), Delta Epsilon Sigma (Catholic colleges), Kappa Tau Alpha (journalism and mass communication), and Phi Beta Kappa (liberal arts and sciences). She gained professional experience in the Saint Michael's Marketing and Communications department, and as a Minnesota Aurora FC media intern and Nordic Insights correspondent. Quam holds a 3.97 GPA as a digital media & communications major, and has earned 11 career academic accolades from D2 ADA, the NE10, College Sports Communicators, and United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA).
Â
The Keleher Award was established in 1954 by the Connecticut Valley Alumni Chapter to honor Roger Keleher, a Springfield, Mass., native. A member of the Class of 1915, his dedication to both academic and athletic achievement provided the model for the scholar-athlete award that now bears his name. Keleher also received an honorary degree from the College in 1959, and is a member of the Saint Michael's College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Â
Two additional student-athletes earned major awards at the annual senior brunch, both from the women's soccer team.
Bernadette Lesieur (Oxford, Mass./Home Schooled) received the Reverend Gerald E. Dupont, S.S.E. '35 Award for her outstanding contributions to the College community, while
Cassie Tofteroo (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) landed the Donald Sutton Community Service accolade through her commitment to Saint Michael's Fire and Rescue.
Â
A number of student-athletes are also among Class of 2025 officers, with women's soccer's
Katie Hansen (Spring Lake, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) serving as class president and teammate
Elani Gikas (Peabody, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) her vice president. Men's swimming & diving's
Thomas Kane (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) is secretary, while the two senators are women's soccer's
