COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey rising senior
Annika Lavender (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and rising juniors
Victoria FitzGibbon (Stittsville, Ontario/East Ottawa Junior Stars U22 AA) and
Maddie Quinn (Chicago, Ill./Team Illinois AAA) were named among 20 New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Student-Athletes of the Year for posting a 4.0 grade-point average in both semesters of the 2024-25 school year.
Â
Lavender and Quinn both earned the accolade for the second time, while the trio headlined a group of 19 Purple Knights who qualified for NEWHA All-Academic, each of whom recorded at least a 3.0 GPA in each semester this past school year. In all, 166 student-athletes from around the league were recognized. This marks the 11th time since 2012-13 that at least 11 Purple Knights earned conference all-academic laurels. Graduate student
Mary Leys (Newport, R.I./Saint George's School) qualified for the fifth time, while May graduates
Angelina Ruiz (Independence, Minn./Gentry Academy) and
Gaby Tribelli (Montreal, Quebec/Dawson College) landed their fourth honors.
Â
Six Purple Knights were also recently recognized as American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholars for the 2024-25 school year. Lavender and Ruiz both claimed their third career nod, as at least five Saint Michael's student-athletes were honored for the seventh time since the award was established in 2016-17. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes needed to accumulate a minimum 3.75 GPA during both the fall and spring semesters this past school year and have competed in at least 40% of their team's games.
