Women's Tennis Improves to 5-1, Defeats Homestanding Post

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team improved to 5-1 by knocking off Post University, 5-2, on Sunday at the Edgewood Bath & Tennis Club.

THE ACTION
  • The Purple Knights' No. 2 and 3 doubles teams took 6-2 decisions to provide their team the 1-0 lead. Larsen and Ricaurte claimed the opening win in the second spot, moving to 4-1, before Aldrete and Xu were victorious at No. 3 to improve to 3-1.
  • At No. 1, junior Emma Gredenhag (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and sophomore Lucy McPherson (Vancouver, British Columbia/Magee Secondary School) were trimmed 7-6 (7-3).
  • Ricaurte blanked her foe at No. 6 singles before Xu dropped only two games in a straight-set win at No. 4.
  • After the Eagles closed their deficit to 3-1 thanks to a win at No. 3, Larsen nabbed the clinching point by taking a 6-2, 6-4 win in the second position.
  • McPherson rallied to take her match at No. 1 to a third-set super tiebreaker before losing 6-2, 3-6, 10-8, but Aldrete capped the contest with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the fifth spot.
