Koppelmans and Macpherson Advance to Round of 16 During ITA East Regional

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Four Saint Michael's College men's tennis players earned wins and sophomore Jamie Macpherson (Durham, United Kingdom/Framwellgate School Durham) and first-year Ferm Koppelmans (Veghel, The Netherlands/Udens College) advanced to the Round of 16 in doubles during the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championship over the weekend. The tournament, which featured singles and doubles draws, took place at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, home of the US Open grand slam event since 1978.

THE ACTION
  • Boban and Brooker both won their opening singles matches during the Round of 64 on Friday in third-set super tiebreakers. The former downed a foe from Northeast 10 Conference counterpart Adelphi University in comeback fashion, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8, while Brooker took a 6-2, 5-7, 11-9 decision from a Bentley University player. Koppelmans lost a close 7-5, 6-2 contest against a Franklin Pierce University opponent.
  • Macpherson and sophomore Richard Lin (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) lost in straight sets against the No. 13 and 8 seeds, respectively.
  • Boban took his opening set later in the day during the Round of 32 in a 3-6, 6-1, 10-5 loss against a University of the District of Columbia foe. Brooker lost his opening set, 6-2, before retiring against the 12th seed.
  • The doubles tandem of Koppelmans and Macpherson was victorious in its debut together, 8-7 (7-3), over a Southern New Hampshire University duo during the Round of 32. Boban and Brooker lost to a different Penmen pair, 8-2.
  • On Saturday, Koppelmans and Macpherson were downed by the seventh seed from Queens College, 8-2, in the Round of 16.
