THE ACTION
- Bloom scored the lone goal of the first period with 10.4 seconds to go. Wolanin chipped a pass from his own end up the ice, and senior Quinn McCarthy (Melrose, Mass./Holderness School) won a 50/50 puck at the end boards and dropped a pass into the slot for a trailing Bloom, who one-timed a shot glove side on Berke.
- The Penmen held a 15-7 lead in shots during a scoreless second period.
- The Purple Knights went ahead 2-0 at 5:46 of the third frame after LeComte and junior Ben Baxter (Hyannis, Mass./Seahawks Hockey Club) finished a give-and-go sequence that started at their own blue line when LeComte tipped in Baxter's cross from the right circle. First-year Luke Clarner (East Burke, Vt./New Hampshire Avalanche) added his first college assist on the play.
- Kayser trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with 9:13 gone, lofting a shot from the blue line through a number of bodies out front.
- Plunkett made five saves during the ensuing 2:30 as the Penmen pushed to tie the game, but they put only one more shot on goal from that point.
- With 1:04 to go, Kayser had a shorthanded breakaway bid that McCarthy disrupted with a backcheck just outside the crease, and Plunkett touched the puck over the glass as it was released.
- With Berke pulled for the final 50 seconds, the visitors sent two bids wide of the net.
